Information

Cochin is known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea. It is also called Kochi, lying on the coast of Kerala. It is one of the major ports of Kerala and India. It is about 220 kms from Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala.

It has population of about 6 lakhs, largely of tradesmen and fishermen. It is also the second largest city of Kerala. Even in history, it has been an important port for trade with European countries.

Off late, the city has developed economically, largely due to surge in tourism. It is also an epitome of secularism and colonial heritage that can witnessed in the city.

It has one of the finest natural harbors in the world which makes it a commercial hub for traders. Starting from the Dutch, Portuguese and the British, Kochi was the site of the first

European colonial settlement in India.

Kochi was an important spice trading centre . It is the second largest city in Kerala after the capital. It is breathtakingly scenic and prosperous state of Kerala, named as ' God's Own Country '

    •  Pareekshith Thampuran Museum , it is also known as Durbar Hall and it houses 19th century oil paintings, a collection of old coins, sculptures and Mughal paintings.
    •  Other attractions are like the Chinese Fishing Nets, Willington Island, named after Lord Willingdon, a former British viceroy of India, it is a man made island made out of the sand deposited when Cochin Port was deepened, The Jewish synagogue, Vypeen Island which has a magnificent lighthouse at Ochanthuruth. A boat ride on the backwaters, hill resorts at Thekkady, Munnar or a stay in a tree house, up north in Wayanad district, Wildlife/bird spotting at Mangalavanam, Kodanad, Kumarakom, Thattekad or Thekkady . Tourists can enjoy an Ayurvedic massage or watch a Kathakali performance. Other than that people can go shopping at the local markets or visit Indian temples.
