The city of Belur is surprisingly a place of pilgrim most popular in the southern India as the Banaras of south. This city of Belur is located in the state of Karnataka. There are a numbers temples pertaining to various Hindu deity. It is at a distance of 33 km from Hassan city. Locally in India it is known as the Dakshina Varanasi. The most magnificent temple in this city is the shrine of Chhenakeshava Temple. It was built in the year 1117 AD by a great ruler Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala Dynasty when he took up Vaishnavism.
