Pillaiyar Patti Lord Ganesha Temple, which is located at a distance of 12 kms from the town on the Karaikudi Madurai road, is one of the hot spots for excursions. Believed to be more than 1600 years old, the temple was built by an early Pandyan king to commemorate a victory.

If interested one could also make a trip to Devakottam which is not only famous for the eponymous chicken dish, but also the beautiful Chettinad mansions and particularly the Periya Minor’s Veedu.

Situated around 45 kms from Karaikudi, Sivaganga is the district headquarters. The palace of the rulers of the Sivagangai dynasty can be seen here.
