There are many places to go for an excursion.  Kurusadai Island ( 23 kms ) is a paradise for biologists. Mandapam is  ( 18 kms ) from  Rameswaram along the mainland. A boat ride to Kurusadai Island can be arranged from here. Ramanathapuram is the district headquarters. Ramalinga Vilasam palace with good paintings and the tomb of Thayumana swamigal,who is  a philosopher saint are worth visiting. Tirupullani ( 64 kms )also known as Dharbasayanam, the Vishnu Temple here, is dedicated to Lord Adi Jaganathaperumal. Devipattinam ( 70kms )Also known as Navabashanam,  is a  coastal Village which has a temple dedicated to Devi who is said to have killed the demon Mahishasura at this spot.
