Tirupati
owes its existence to the Tirumala Temple situated Seshachala hilltop. Ancient
texts say that Moksha or salvation in Kalyuga is impossible without pleasing
Lord Venkateshwara at the Tirumala Temple of Tirupati. Other places of importance
in Tirupati are Varaswamy Temple, Shila Toranam Papavinasham and Akasganga
Waterfalls. The steep hills of Tirumala are a visual delight for both devotees
and trekkers or rock climbers alike. Other places which is a must see in Tirupati
are Sri Kalahasti, Chandragiri fort, Horsley hills and Kailashnath Kona.
Call it Gods will that although the climate of Tirupati is of tropical nature, these temples with their altitudes have a pleasant weather throughout the year.
By road and Tirupati is well connected with Chennai (140 Kms), Bangalore (280 Kms) and Hyderabad (555 Kms). Tirumala and Tirupati are apart from each other 22 Kms downhill. The nearest airport “Renigunta” is 14 Kms from Tirupati. Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai are connected to Tirupati by daily flights.
Many new air routes are now operational with private air carriers at much affordable prizes. Shuttling busses are also available from all major towns to Tirupati. Closest Railway Station to the temple is situated at Tirupati and Renigunta.
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS :
The most important temple to be seen here is the eminent temple of Sri Venkateswara. It is renowned for its glittering golden dome.
This is situated on the Venkata Hill. According to the Hindu Shastra, ‘mukti' or salvation can be acquired only by worshipping Sri Venkateswara.
The idol is kept in the Garbha Gruha, the main complex of the temple. The idol is decorated with gold and also with diamond on special occasions.
The doors and walls, mandaps and shrines are all richly carved. Within the temple premises, you will get to see many other attractions like, the Padi Kavali Maha Dwara, Krishna Devaraya Mandapam, Ranga Mandapam, Aina Mahal, Sri Vara darajaswami Shrine, Sri Ramanuja Shrine and Tirumamani Mandapam.
Some other temples you can see around Tirupati are, Sri Govindarajaswami Temple, Sri Kodandaramaswami Temple, Sri Kapileswaraswami Temple, and the temples of Sri Prasanna Venkateswaraswami and Sri Chenna kesavaswami in Appalayagunta and Tallapaka respectively.
Check out a cascading waterfall – Akasa Ganga situated to the north of the main temple in Tirupati. Vaikuntha Tirtham and Tumburu Tirtham are other places of interests.
The plush T.T.D Gardens and the Geological Arch are also not to be missed out.
HOW TO REACH :
Tirupati is accessible by air, rail and road transports. You can reach Renigunta or Gudur by train and from there again catch a bus or train to Tirupati.
Trains from Chennai are also available regularly. Other cities from where direct trains are available to Tirupati are, Hyderabad, Madurai, Puri, Howrah, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Delhi and Vasco in Goa.
Direct buses are there from Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Pondicherry. The nearest airport is located in Renigunta.
