Karaikudi

Karaikudu is situated in the Sivaganga district. It has a majority of  "Nattu Kottai Chettiars living here. It is because of this that it is often known as the ‘Capital of Chettinad!! The "Nattu Kottai Chettiars have spread out from here into the world as far as the South and South East Asia. They were primarily into banking but later expanded into other business. They ventured out in the early 19th and the 20th century. It is also the homeland of the Nattukottai Chettiars. There are besides these, 74 other villages. Karaikudu is also known for two famous institutions….the Alagappa University and also CECRI.
