Tanjore

Tanjore is a historic city in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has the distinction of being the capital of the Chola Empire. Having had such a legacy, it is full of temples of breathtaking beauty. The city in itself occupies an area of 3.397 sq kms. According to the 2001 census, Tanjore had a population of around 22, 16,138. There is no markedly distinct tourist season; it can be visited throughout the year. The climate is generally warm with torrential rains during the monsoon season. The commonly spoken language in the city includes Tamil, English and Marathi.
