Alleppey

Kuttanad in Alleppey is called the rice bowl of Kerala because of its collection of paddy crops. Here you can see a rich crop of bananas, cassava and yam. The unique thing about this place is that here farming is done 1.5 m below the sea level. Here inland waterways flow above the sea lever, and are a treat to watch. Alappuzha Beach is also one of the major attractions here, and a regular picnic spot amongst the localites. It is also famous for its pier which is said to be more than 130 years old. There are also many entertainment facilities and an old lighthouse which fascinates many visitors.
