Periyar

The wildlife sanctuary of the city of Periyar is the major tourist-attracting site for the visitors. The area of this National Park is stretched for 780 square kilometers. The river Periyar is running along the sides of the park and this led the visitors have a boat safari of the surrounding of the thick and green forest of the sanctuary. Despite the availability of enormous animal as well as the avian species, the Tigers add more interest to the visitors. This wildlife sanctuary became a tiger reserve in 1972. Elephants, Gaurs, Wild Boar, Nilgai, Sambar and Mouse Deer are other interesting figures of this park.
