Vishakhapatnam is known for the bronze and brass icons of which “Panchaloha” Idols are very popular for its splendor of Dravidian art forms of the Chola Period. They are traditionally made by a process called “Lost Wax Method” and are used in Temples and for prayers at home. These brass icons are based on slokas and shastras made by skilled craftsmen called sthapathis who are extensively knowledgeable of shastras and various art forms of dancing and singing. Every icon depicts a slokas immunizing the mood, posture and the weapons held by the deity. The dieing art of Ionology and Tinjore Paintings using gold foils are well preserved in the artistries of Vishakhapatnam.
