History

Tamil Nadu is believed to have habilitated since the pre-historic times. In fact the first ancestors of the Dravidians race of Indians is also believed to have found home here. Later, the Chera, Chola, Pallava and Pandya legacies enriched the socio-cultural canvas of the state. All these kingdoms were patrons of various art forms and spiritual practices that paved way for the longest surviving literature, music, dance, painting form, sculpture and other such art forms of the world.

The Madras Presidency, later known as Tamil Nadu, was amongst the first regions of the Indian sub-continent to be colonized by the British.
